Level 1 (Beginner) Tasks...

 

Level 1 - Liberty Tasks

  1. Approach your horse from minimum 10 feet away.
  2. Rub him all over with the Halter and 12-foot Line.
  3. Put the halter on and tie the knot correctly.

Level 1 - On Line Tasks

  1. Play The Friendly Game (1) using Carrot Stick and Savvy String.
  2. Play The Porcupine Game (2): show backward, HQ and FQ yields from both sides.
  3. Play The Driving Game (3): show backward, HQ and FQ yields from both sides.
  4. Play The Yo-Yo Game (4): show two complete Yo-Yo’s.
  5. Play The Circling Game (5): show two laps each way and bring back.
  6. Play The Sideways Game (6): using a fence, show both sides.
  7. Play The Squeeze Game (7): show both ways and over a jump.
  8. Show Lateral Flexion from both sides.
  9. Back your horse through a gate using The Yo-Yo Game (4) and The Squeeze Game (7).
  10. Run forward with your horse, stop and back up without looking at him using your leadership skills and body blocks.
  11. Pick up all four feet from one side.
  12. Trailer Load while standing outside the trailer. Close the gate, wait 10 seconds, open it and unload your horse.

Level 1 - Freestyle Riding Tasks

  1. Saddle your horse from the Indian side with lead rope over your arm.
  2. Mount from both sides, stepping up and down three times.
  3. Show lateral flexion when mounted to both sides.
  4. Dismount both sides.
  5. Pushing Passenger at the trot for 21 minutes.
  6. Ride “Follow the Rail.”
  7. Emergency Dismount

Level 1 - Finesse Riding Tasks

  1. Put the Natural Hackamore on your horse from your knees.
  2. Ride sideways to the right and to the left.
  3. Trot around on a casual rein, come towards assessor and show a 9 Step Back Up.
  4. Controlled catastrophe.
All of the current PNH Level 1 tasks are covered in the above list.  However, additional tasks have been added that were either in the old PNH Level 1 assessment, or are have been added from other Natural Horsemanship practitioners.
